Next Practice 4PM Tuesday

There will be no practice on Monday and Tuesday's practice has been moved from 10 AM to 4 PM.

Knocked Out in Semi-Final Thriller

The AAA Mosquito squad played a very good American team from Sedro Woolley in a thrilling Semi-Final matchup at the End of Summer Classic at Bender Fields in Lynden, WA. The game went to extra innings, with Abby taking a 5-4 lead in the top of the 7th. Sadly the lead was short lived as the Americans won it in the bottom half, walking off with a 6-5 victory. Carlin Dick had a strong start on the mound, giving up 2 runs over 3 innings. Conall Sexton was equally strong through the next 3, also giving up only 2 runs. It was a great game, and despite the disappointment of losing, the team remains very positive heading into the Provincial Championships next week. To get to the Semi-Final, in Pool play the boys had crushed the team from Burnaby, tied their rivals from Cloverdale and lost to a power hitting team from East Lake, WA. Scores: Angels 3 Cloverdale 3 Angels 2 East Lake 11 Angels 18 Burnaby 4 Angels 5 Sedro Woolley 6

Angels Roll Over Ridge

The Angels secured 1st place in the Lower Mainand Zone with a solid 16-5 victory over Ridge Meadows. 6 different pitchers took the hill, with shutout innings coming from Pinky Jessamine, Conall Sexton, and Tyler Nelson. Pinky was clearly the fan favorite of the night and spent much of the post-game getting pictures taken with supporters and giving out hugs. The boys are now 5-0 in league play and 15-1 overall.

Mercy rule victory

The Angels were dominant tonight in a 14-2 victory over Richmond. Dayton Peters, Conall Sexton and Logan McDonald were solid on the mound while the team showed great discipline at the plate. Highlights included a ground-rule double by Carlin Dick who pounded the ball on a one hopper over the centerfield fence, and a couple of inning ending diving catches by Conall. The boys move to 4-0 in Qualifying and 14-1 overall.

The AAA Mosquito team cruised to an 11-0 victory over the old rivals from Chilliwack. Strong pitching from Carlin Dick and Parker Wakelyn neutralized the opposition hitters, while a strong team effort at the plate produced the runs. Highlights included Homers from Dayton Peters and Gage Goncalves. The Angels are now 3-0 in provincial qualifying and 13-1 overall.

Thursday night is Sponsor Night

The Angels are proud to invite all of our sponsors to our final home game of the summer, this coming Thursday, July 19, at Lions Park.  The 6:30 PM game against Richmond is a rematch of the Provincial Gold Medal Game from last summer.  We would love to host our sponsors for the night.  The hotdogs will be on us and we would love to get a picture of you with the team!

(Parents, if you have been the liason with a sponsor, please be sure to pass on the invitation!)

2nd Victory in Qualifying Round

The AAA Mosquito All-Stars returned to Cloverdale in a rematch of the final of the Boulanger Tournament.  This time the Spurs didn't send their top hurlers to the hill and the Angels took full advantage, romping to a 13-4 victory.  Kole Jessamine got the start and pitched two solid shut-out innings.  Logan McDonald followed on the mound and John Boulanger closed it out. The Angels played some solid defence in the field, and got some good hits, especially from the bottom part of the order.  The team moves to 2-0 in Provincial Qualifying.  Next up is the Valley of Champions Tournament in Kelowna!

Good start to qualifying round.

The Angels got off to a 1-0 start in the Provincial Qualifying Round by defeating Coquitlam Moody 11-1.  The mercy rule victory came from some excellent pitching and defence.  Strong games on the mound were turned in by Kole Jessamine, John Boulanger, Parker Wakelyn, Conall Sexton and Riley Hall.  The bats and baserunning weren't quite as good, but a few players were strong at the plate including Riley Hall who is at or near the top in all batting categories after the first 6 games.  The boys next take on rival Cloverdale before heading to the Valley of Champions Tournament in Kelowna.

No practice on Friday

No practice on Friday!  We will get back at it on Monday.  Enjoy a long weekend-- but players have been reminded to get out there each day still to throw the ball around and take some swings.

Disappointing, but let's stay positive!

As disappointing as it was to lose yesterday evening, we started the 2012 summer season with many, many positives and can take away many good things from the tournament!  The coaches will help the players see what we can all learn from the weekend, both what went right and what didn't, and we can be a better team for it in the long run!  Our goal is to win the AAA provincial championship and nothing that happened this weekend changes that!  I encourage all the players to lift their heads, enjoy a day off, and get back at it with a renewed desire to work hard in practice tomorrow!

Here are a few pictures, courtesy Corrine Wakelyn..  Thanks to Corrine for the pictures on the roster pages as well!  If anyone else has some pictures, please share!

From the thrill of victory to the agony of defeat.

The thrilling feeling that the Angels carried from the  come from behind win in the Semi-Final was short-lived, as the Gold Medal Final did not have a happy result.  An error on an easy fly ball from the first batter proved to be ominous, as the team couldn't find its way back from a 2-0 deficit after the 1st inning.  The Cloverdale pitchers had the Angels' numbers in this one, as the team managed just 4 hits over 6 innings.  The Spurs added 2 more in the 4th, and despite 1 run in the bottom of that inning, Abbotsford never looked like a threat to come back in this one.  The game ended a disappointing 4-1 for the host team.  John Boulanger was named Player of the Game.  His double was one of the few bright spots, and I am sure his Grandfather, in whose honour this tournament was named, would be happy.  Coach Todd delivered an emotional reminder to everyone present about how much his Dad meant to him and to youth baseball as he thanked Cloverdale for once again hosting a great tournament.

What a game!

Games against Chilliwack are almost always intense and entertaining affairs, and this one was no different.  The pitching and defense for both teams was top notch and the game was tied at zero through 4 innings.  A solo Homerun on the first pitch of the 5th inning gave Chilliwack the lead, and they held it going into the final half inning.  Dayton Peters led off the bottom of the 6th with a wonderful bunt.  A couple of stolen bases later and he was at 3rd after Logan McDonald reached 1st. John Boulanger brought in the tying run with a hit that found a soft spot between 3rd Base and the Left-Field.  Riley Hall then knocked in the winning run with a hard hit ball to 2nd base, allowing Dayton to score and break the hearts of the Chilliwack team and their supporters.   Logan McDonald was named Player of the Game based on his strong 4 innings of Pitching.  The win in the Semi-Final puts the Angels into a Gold Medal Game for the 2nd year in a row at the Boulanger Tournament.

Nanaimo Bars For Lunch

We had Nanaimo bars for lunch... and the Angels beat Nanaimo in a convincing mercy rule victory.  Player of the Game was Parker Wakelyn with a homer to left-center.  Many others also contributed some big hits.  Strong pitching from Riley Hall, Hunter Klassen, Gage Goncalves, Dayton Peters and Tyler Nelson helped shut down the Nanaimo offense.  The Angels finish the round robin portion at a perfect 3-0.
